Contemporary literature: its status and shape

We are going to discuss a wide spectrum of issues associated with contemporary literature, namely: the notion of national literature, the practice of the global literary market and the position of a (former) East-Central European writer within his-her transitional cultural environment. We are going to talk about identity branding; the status of the European literary canon, cultural and literary migration, the reception and evaluation of literary works, understanding literature in a market-oriented culture, the notions of the autonomy of literature and literary subversion, exile and literary practice in exile, cultural exchange and translation, and transnational literature.
