This course will provide an introduction into literary and cultural theory. Apart from gaining a more general overview, we will be concerned with detailed textual analysis. We will start with the New Criticism, and study some of the dominant schools, trends and tendencies in Anglo-American criticism throughout the 20th Century. Students should be prepared to present one theoretical approach in class and read about 30-50 pages per week.
